For quite some time most of the car manufacturers in India are increasing the prices of some of their car models owing to the increasing raw material cost and implementation of the BS IV norms. After Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra will be the next utility major to join the league.

M&M Chief Executive (Automotive Division) Rajesh Jejurikar said "We have been holding back this raise for a while, but now it has become imperative to raise prices especially as the prices of raw materials have been on the rise,"

The company says that the prices of Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Xylo, and Mahindra Bolero might increase by up to Rs. 8000 which will certainly affect the sales of the respective cars. Another M&M official further added, "This increase would be in the range of Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000 depending on the model and will be effective from October 1, 2010,"

The price hike spree seems to have no end as most of the majors are following the trend and others are expected to join soon.

4000 Volkswagen Vento Booked In 3 Weeks

Volkswagen has launched its sedan based on Volkswagen Polo platform called Volkswagen Vento, Polo is the hatchback from VW which is already selling well and is on a 2 to 3 weeks waiting. Volkswagen Vento is a lucrative offering with CRDI diesel engine option and also automatic transmission options available. These options make this car more desirable and compete well in this segment.

Volkswagen has already received 4000 orders for Vento in just three weeks of the launch. Its a good sales number and already making news with the innovative talking advertisement which were given out newspapers in India.

The competing sedans which almost rule this segment like Honda City and Maruti SX4 do not have diesel engine variants as yet in the market. Although Maruti will soon launch Maruti SX4 Diesel In India, but till then, Vento will surely get some early bird advantage. I have already seen some of the Ventos on Delhi roads and it looks like an elegant ride, lets wait and watch how well it does in the longer run.
