BMW X1 India Launch In January 2011 – Specifications & Price

Posted: 13 Oct 2010 05:30 AM PDT

A few months back we had informed you about BMW X1's launch in December 2010 but news is coming that the official launch has been pushed to January 2011. The BMW X1 more than being a SUV also features compactness and thus could get a good response from the Indian automobile market since it would be cheaper as well as will carry the same legacy of BMW's suvs.

For the Indian market only rear wheel driven models will be introduced making it more competitive against its foes like the Mitsubishi, Toyota and Audi. The car will be be offered in two trim levels, Highline and Corporate Edition to make both the models a bit distinguished since one will lack the top end features whereas the other would offer the same.

Earlier at the 2010 Auto Expo Peter Kronschnabl, president of BMW India had said, "The CKD Production of the BMW X1 is a key milestone in BMW Group's India strategy. The BMW X1 opens up a new luxury segment in the compact Sports Activity / Sports Utility Vehicle class, demonstrating once again the company's fine sense for pioneering automotive trends. The BMW X1 is a modern vehicle that represents new interpretation of sheer driving pleasure and, like no other vehicle, a spontaneous lifestyle. It convincingly perpetuates the success story of BMW in India."

This new baby Bimmer will be shipped to India as a CKD unit and will be later assembled at the company's Chennai plant in order to cut some costs.
