Mercedes Benz has launched its M-Class in India. The M-Class Grand Edition is available in two variants – Grand Sports and Grand Executive. The ex-showroom Pune price of the Executive Edition is Rs. 47.91 Lakhs and the sports edition costs Rs. 54.11 Lakhs.

Shorter Tata Indigo Manza CS Will Get Excise Benefit

Cars shorter than 4 meter in length in India have considerably lesser excise duty as they are classifieds as small cars. To take the advantage of the same, Tata motors is working on a shorter version of Tata Indigo Manza, the new variant will be called Tata Indigo Manza CS. The most interesting fact Tata Indigo Manza CS is that it will not cut down on the interior comfort of the car as the interior dimension of the passenger compartment will not be changed. Tata designers will contract the front and boot of the car to bring it to less than 4 meters in length from current length of 4.413 m. This reduction of about 42 cm in length will be achieved by cutting down space near the front grille of the car.

This reduction in size will enable Tata to price Manza CS very competitively to the hatchbacks. This is a great value for money for the buyers who want an entry level Sedan in a price bracket of a hatchback car.

Initially it will come to India as a CBU (completely built unit) which attracts 110% duty which more than doubles the price for which one can get it in the UK. Initially , Triumph will sell only a few popular models like Rocket and Daytonna to India. The price of Triumph motorcycles is expected to be close to Rs. 15 Lakhs In India.

General Motors Chevrolet India Flexi-Engine Plant In Talegaon

General Motors aka Chevrolet India has set up its new engine plant in Talegaon, Maharashtra India. The plant has a capability to produce Diesel as well as Petrol Engine simultaneously. The Initial capacity of of this plant is 1.60 Lakh engine units per year which can be expanded in future if need arises.

Talegaon, India – General Motors today inaugurated its new flexi-engine facility in Talegaon, GM's first powertrain plant that enables petroleum and diesel engines to be manufactured simultaneously.

The state-of-the-art facility represents investment of $230 million. It has an initial annual production capacity of 160,000 engines and is designed to accommodate future expansion. The new engine plant will begin by producing engines for small passenger cars manufactured by GM in India.

"This marks the beginning of GM’s next chapter in India." GM India President and Managing Director Karl Slym said. "The opening of our new facility will enable our company to become more competitive and keep up with the growing demand for our vehicles. GM India's sales have grown significantly since we began rolling out our mini-cars, the Chevrolet Spark and Beat, at our Talegaon plant about two years back."

Slym added, "We appreciate the support of the Maharashtra government and our employees across the country. Their backing has enabled us to build a world-class engine facility in record time of less than two years."

On Aug. 28, 2008, GM signed an agreement with the Government of Maharashtra for the construction of a new engine plant adjacent to its vehicle manufacturing facility. Construction started in December 2008, with pilot production commencing in March 2010. The engine plant complements GM’s modern vehicle manufacturing facilities in Talegaon and Halol, Gujarat, as well as the GM Technical Centre – India in Bangalore, which is carrying out a range of engineering, design and R&D activities.

General Motors India has completed 14 years of operation. It offers a growing range of products under the Chevrolet brand, which was introduced in India in 2003 and has become one of the fastest-growing automotive nameplates in the country. In addition to the Spark and Beat, GM India also produces the Captiva, Optra, Cruze, Aveo, Aveo U-VA, and Tavera for sale nationwide.

GM is the fifth-largest automobile manufacturer in India. In the first 10 months of 2010, GM India sold a record 93,960 vehicles, which represents a 73 percent increase over the same period last year. It has 209 sales points and 205 service outlets in 178 cities across India, and has embarked upon an ambitious rural marketing initiative to further boost sales. In February 2010, GM and its Chinese partner SAIC opened a joint venture in India for cooperation in vehicle manufacturing and sales.

Maruti Wagon R 2012–Suzuki Solio Scoop Pictures

Maruti Suzuki's parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan is working on future variant of Maruti Wagon R which will be an all new platform. This Wagon R, badged as Solio, is based on the New 2011 Maruti Suzuki Swift which is a longer and wider car compared to the Blue-Eyed-Boy Wagon R avatar launched in India in 2010. The car is codenamed YK8 and will feature 1.2 Litre K-series engine by Suzuki.

The new Wagon R 2012 will be 3750mm long, 1685mm wide and 1660mm in height. The wheelbase is also increased to 2430mm. Due to larger dimensions, the interior space will also be more compared to the existing Wagon R.

The specifications sound very impressive with 1.2 Litre MPFI Petrol Engine delivering a max power of about 90 BHP @ 6000 RPM and 118Nm Torque @ 4800 RPM. The car will have an automatic CVT transmission with a fuel average of about 24 KMPL.

The car may be launched exclusively in Japan and may not come to India in the same form, but we expect the next generation Indian Wagon R will also be developed using same platform and engine.
