Suzuki Grand Vitara and SX4 recall

Posted: 08 Feb 2011 12:25 AM PST

Suzuki are recalling more than 32,000 Grand Vitara and SX4 vehicles in the United States because of an improperly manufactured component of the tension adjuster pulley that could cause the drive belt to either slip or come off and lead to engine overheating or stalling.

The recall includes:

  • Grand Vitara SUVs from 2009-2010 thats equipped with 4-cylinder engines.
  • 2011 Grand Vitara vehicles produced prior to October 17, 2010.
  • 2010 SX4s and 2011 SX4s manufactured before October 14, 2010.

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that the tension adjuster pulley for the drive belt that operates the alternator, water pump, air conditioner compressor and power steering pump, has an improperly manufactured internal spring that can break due to repeated stress.

If the spring breaks, the drive belt can slip, causing a squeaking noise, or come off, in which case, the driver will have to use increased steering effort, while it can also cause the engine to overheat or stall.

The Suzuki dealers will replace the tension adjuster pulley with an improved part free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before February 16, 2011.

Mustang GT and Camaro SS convertible comparison

    Posted: 07 Feb 2011 05:15 AM PST

    muscle cars

Motor Trend have released a report comparing the 2011 Ford Mustang GT convertible with its rival the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible. Read more to see the results…

The Ford Mustang actually came out on top and Motor Trend’s Jonny Liebermann had this to say about the muscle car.

As a driver you feel more confident in the Mustang. Not only that, but it’s more fun and a better dance partner in the corners. The rear tires hop around less. The steering feels more direct, the pedals are placed better, the shifter shifts better, and (broken record time), because you can actually see out of the thing, the Mustang allows you to drive faster and more aggressively. All very good attributes for a sports car to possess, no? Plus the Ford sounds great and looks good, just like the Camaro. The problem for Chevy is that we can’t think of a single thing the Camaro does better than the Mustang, save for braking and brake pedal feel. You might whip out the cliché mentioning that the Chevy has an independent rear end whereas the Mustang makes do with a solid rear axle. But I’d argue that the Mustang GT features the most refined solid axle ever fit to a production vehicle, while the Camaro makes do with a very average independent setup.

The 2011 Mustang GT is a gauntlet thrown down, a call out to the rest of the industry, “Look what we can do for around $30k.” Live-axle American cars shouldn’t be able to smoke Audi S5s in every meaningful way, but here we are. Add another $8000 to that starting point and you’ve got an excellent convertible.

If you wish to find out more about Motor Trend’s comparison then you can read the rest of the story over at MotorTrend.com.

If you just want the stats then check out the table below and you can see the Mustang is just slightly ahead on nearly every aspect.
