Indian roads are not meant for super speed cars and will never be atleast for some years but its not the Indian manufacturers who are focusing on high speed machines but as always the manufacturers located on the other side of the planet.

Ford, Nissan, Honda, Chevrolet and a bunch of others are always busy with their R&D programs running in order to bring out innovations which could deliver better speeds without incurring much investment. Out of all these one brand is the most popular for its amazingly high speed and high price cars and is known as Bugatti.

This French brand was found by Ettore Bugatti,an Italian immigrant described as an eccentric genius for building high performance automobiles and the brand still carries his legacy with cars like the Bugatti Veyron. This car previously held the record for the fastest landspeed of production cars and now the latest addition to its titles is another landspeed record created by Buatti Veyron Super Sport.

This car broke the previous world record with an average top speed of 431km/hr on the proving grounds of the Volkswagen Group at Ehra-Lessien (nearby its headquarters at Wolfsburg) under the sharp observation of a representative of Guinness Book of Records and officials from German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV).

Bugatti’s Pilote Officiel Pierre Henri Raphanel drove the car from north to south with a speed of 427, 933 km/h and then back with a speed of 431,211 km/h which led the jury calculate an record breaking average top speed of 431,072 km/h. Bugatti’s chief engineer Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber said,"We took it that we would reach an average value of 425 km/h, but the conditions today were perfect and allowed even more.”

The car was built after the brand's customers insisted them to design a model which is optically different along with another one with a sportier identity giving better driving experience.

The car sports a uniquely designed engine developing a maximum power of 1,200-hp (882 kW) along with an astonishing maximum torque of 1,500 Newton metres.For the customers' safety and to protect the tyres the speed of the car has been restricted to a maximum 415 km/h.

The car is rumored to be priced at 2.5 million US dollars.

The first five buyers of Veyron Super Sport will get the machine with the same configuration as of the actual car which broke the record and the car will appear for the first time in public in California at the Pebble Beach Concours weekend in mid-August and will be featured at The Quail, Monterey Historic Races at Laguna Seca and on the concept lawn of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Land Rover is a well known brand famous for its top-notch and high-end luxurious SUV's which apart from offering power, deliver quality as well to its buyers. Our very own Indian brand Tata, bagged the Land Rover and Jaguar for a few billion dollars, which is seen as a great achievement for an Indian manufacturer.

We are aware of the fact that all those cars which are imported from other countries come with a higher price tag owing to the duties the companies pay in the procedure, while the cars which are manufactured in India are competitively priced.

Every manufacturer focuses on extracting maximum profits either by selling their products at higher prices or by manufacturing them nearby the existing marketplace and believing in the same ideology Land Rover is all set to get assembled in India only.

The brand is planning to assemble some of the variants in our country since they incur a lot of import costs.Sources say that Land Rover plans to assemble the FreeLander 2 which is currently the lowest-priced model in the whole line-up from the company and comes with a price tag of Rs 33.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Other than Freelander the company sells Discovery 4 and Range Rover which will not be assembled here for the timing and will get imported. Currently the FreeLander 2 is being imported with cumulative duties of nearly 110 percent and with the new plans the company promises to bring down the duties to a surprising 50 percent,eventually cutting down its cost to a few lakh of INR.

In the Global Auto Industry it is believed that one should be a trend setter rather than a trend follower and following this belief are the companies like General Motors, Ford and now BMW who have started working on projects focusing on vehicles meant for future cities.

According to a study conducted by the United Nations after a decade or two the scenario of the cities will worsen with nearly 5 billion people(Estimated one megacity population by 2030) on the roads and no space for driving cars and to overcome these problems in the future the designers have started working on vehicles which are built better,require low space and are affordable for the masses.

Starting the race is GM, who some time back showcased the EN-V followed by Ford START Concept and now BMW has presented the preliminary sketches of its concept called the BMW Mega City Vehicle(MCV).

Adrian van Hooydonk, director of BMW Group Design said that its the technology and material they are using to bring it to reality and the aim is to build a sustainable yet premium car.Mr. van Hooydonk added,"They are highly emotional, with refined materials and high level of attention to detail. But there was a belief that premium and sustainable could not go together."

They have assembled a special group 15 designers comprising of exterior and interior designers together with the engineers in order to complete the project in a short time.The team leader is Mr.Benoit Jacob, a French designer who designed a successful small car,Dacia Logan when working with Renault and now works for BMW.

The design team has used CRPF(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) since it is very light and can translate easily into a design as steel does.Mr. van Hooydonk said "It is sometimes hard for designers to get their heads around the change.The chance to work on such a new formula is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,"

General Specifications Of BMW Mega City Vehicle

The vehicle is a zero-emission one and accommodates four passengers. It would be a rear-wheel drive car generating a maximum power of 150 hp (112 kW / 152 PS) through an electric motor powered by a 35 kWh lithium-ion battery. According to BMW this vehicle will deliver a mileage of at least 100 miles (161 km) along with a top speed of 95 mph (153 km/hr).

BMW also has plans to launch two more variants by 2015 and 2017 which will be known as ICV (Intra-city Vehicle) and UCV (Urban Commuter Vehicle).While the ICV will be a two door product accommodating 2 passengers, the UCV will get a longer wheelbase,four doors accommodating 5 passengers.
