Former president takes the wheel of a F1 car Posted: 23 Nov 2010 05:51 AM PST Its a dream for many to take a drive in a Formula one car and that dream became a reality for former Russian president Vladimir Putin. He took the wheel of the Lada sponsored Renault F1 car and drove it round a coned area at St. Petersburg.
After some coaching by professionals Putin sped of in the Renault Formula one car and managed to reach speeds of up to 240 km/h (150 mph). Watch the former president Putin take a spin in a F1 race car in the video below.

Posted: 23 Nov 2010 05:26 AM PST The car enthusiasts from Autocar have released a new video putting the BMW M3 up against the Audi RS5. They raced the two sports saloons around a track and if you want to know which one proved superior then watch this video.
The BMW M3 is powered by a V8 engine that produces 420 hp, thats 30 horses less than the 450 hp Audi RS5. However, these are the official figures but according to the French press, the Audi RS5 actually develops only 422 hp, they claim they have tested the power output of the Audi RS5 on the dyno and the real figures are lower than the official specs say. Churchill Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupe up for auction Posted: 23 Nov 2010 03:26 AM PST British auctioneers – Brooklands has released information on a rare car that is due to go on auction in December 2010, the vehicle used to be owned by the UK’s world war 2 prime minister – Sir Winston Churchill and it is a Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupe.
Churchill’s Daimler DB18 was used by the British Prime Minister during his 1944 and 1949 election campaigns and is expected to go for up to 250,000 GBP. Churchill’s Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupe is one of eight built in 1939. four of them were destroyed in the Blitz, a fifth is severely damaged and two of them have disappeared. Churchill’s Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupe, with Chassis 49531, is the only one surviving 1939 model. Churchill’s Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupe was able to reach a top speed of 76 mph (122km/h) and could accelerate from 0 to 50 mph in 17.9 seconds. For more information read the press release below. Historics at Brooklands Press Release:A car used by the greatest Briton* – Sir Winston Churchill – is set for auction at arguably the greatest British auction venue – Brooklands – when Historics hosts its third sale at its permanent home on Saturday, December 4th. Featuring the finest coachwork by the Carlton Carriage Co., the Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupé was used by the British Prime Minister during 1944 and 1949 election campaigns and is expected to fetch offers in the region of £200,000 to £250,000. Owing to the second world war, only eight of the proposed 23 DB18 Drophead Coupés due for 1939 were built, with four completely destroyed during the Blitz, a fifth so badly damaged it was scrapped and the whereabouts of two unknown, Chassis 49531 remains the only discovered surviving 1939 model. Rolling off the production line in the same year motor racing ceased at Brooklands, the DB18 was capable of a top speed of 76 mph and a 0 – 50 mph acceleration time of a none-too-shabby 17.9 seconds. Although technically speaking the DB18 utilises manual transmission, the car actually makes use of a 4 speed Wilson Pre-selector gearbox in tandem with the Daimler Fluid Flywheel, which allows the driver to select the next available gear by hand before using the 'change pedal' to enact the shift. With its extensive history well documented, including ownership in the U.S.A, Germany, UK and even by an Iranian Prince, this eminently intriguing motorcar has benefited from a painstaking c €140,000 top-to-bottom restoration by the revered restorer, E. Thiesen of Hamburg, Germany. Finished in stately silver over black coachwork with a contrasting three-position cabriolet hood, the striking exterior is complimented by a luxurious green leather bench seat in the front and sideways seat in the rear, whilst an elegant wooden dashboard houses period black Jaeger instruments. Porsche Exclusive offers hand-crafted personalization factory options and takes care of everything from development to sales. They also offer, for each model, completely individualized vehicles together with a range of options. To celebrate 25 years of success, Porsche Exclusive are creating a strictly limited edition of a new 911 Speedster. This will be a tribute to the first Porsche model that bore the name Speedster – the 356 Speedster. This new model will be limited to 356 cars and will be an open top two-seater with low windscreen and double bubble on the convertible-top compartment lid.
