Lamborghini gives us a bit more Aventador LP700-4 love with this newly “leaked” video. Crusing around on the snow banked roads, the “sharpie” liveried Aventor gives hints to its exhaust note, interior features and exterior lines.

The New SEAT Alhambra 4WD

Posted: 18 Feb 2011 06:45 AM PST

SEAT Alhambra 4WD

One of the Europe’s best MPVs is now even better, even more versatile and even more dynamic – with permanent all-wheel drive and plenty of traction, the SEAT Alhambra 4WD adds a whole new dimension of possibilities for families, leisure, business and hobby travellers. Thanks to its 2.0 TDI engine that is as powerful as it is efficient and to its surprisingly dynamic handling, the Alhambra 4WD offers a unique combination of extremely high usability and with sure-footed handling in all conditions.

  • All-wheel drive for optimum stability and traction
  • Impressive dynamics combined with excellent comfort
  • TDI drive with sporty character and outstanding efficiency
  • Progressive bodyshell concept with sliding doors and five or six seats
  • Innovative hi-tech features, the very highest quality standards

From the outset, the new SEAT Alhambra has claimed a top spot in the MPV segment thanks to its practical bodyshell concept, maximum flexibility, innovative technologies and outstanding efficiency. Also on the plus side are its high quality standards and a premium feel that exceeds all expectations in the MPV sector, not to mention its competitive price position.

Greater dynamics and traction

This summer will see the new Alhambra 4WD join the line-up – with its permanent all-wheel drive, this version offers a major benefit in traction on every road surface and in every situation. Driving safety and mobility in the face of wintry road conditions benefit every bit as much as its performance as a towing vehicle. At the same time, the next-generation, electronically controlled all-wheel drive is set up for optimum driving dynamics. Thanks to the sophisticated design of its carefully tuned chassis, the SEAT Alhambra stays true to the spirit of the brand by delivering a surprising level of sporty driving fun – something not usually associated with MPVs. Yet the Alhambra´s dynamism doesn´t come at the expense of long-distance comfort.

Extremely fast and smooth distribution of forces

The all-wheel drive system smoothly and quickly adapts the distribution of torque in line with the driving situation – in extreme cases, one hundred percent of the forces flow to the rear wheels. The central element is an electronically controlled and hydraulically operated multi-plate clutch. To further improve the already excellent axle load distribution, the multi-plate clutch is mounted at the end of the drive shaft in front of the rear axle differential – which is also a re-engineered, extremely compact and highly robust component.

Next-generation hi-tech design

Running in an oil bath inside the central clutch is a disc set that can be pressed together in a continuously variable fashion using regulated hydraulic pressure. The control unit constantly analyses the driving conditions. In the event that the front wheels slip, an electrically driven annular piston pump immediately builds up the oil pressure necessary for the clutch to divert a large proportion of the driving force to the rear wheels. Thanks to a high-performance pressure accumulator, this process takes just a matter of milliseconds.

Powerful performance and excellent efficiency

The SEAT Alhambra 4WD is equipped with the 2.0 TDI with 103 kW / 140 hp and manual six-speed transmission, to deliver a combination of powerful performance and excellent efficiency. The Alhambra 4WD achieves a top speed of 191 km/h and an acceleration time from 0-100 km/h of 11.4 seconds, while the TDI consumes an average of just 6.0 litres per 100 km, equating to a CO2 figure of 158 grams per km*. The Ecomotive package with recuperation and automatic start/stop has a major role to play in these figures. The MPV is also equipped with an SCR catalytic converter (Selective Catalytic Reduction) – a technology that places the Alhambra 4WD among the world’s cleanest diesels.

Deliverable as either a five or six-seater

The SEAT Alhambra 4WD is offered as a five-seater in the Reference and Style versions. The comprehensive standard equipment and many hi-tech options are the same as those offered on the models with front-wheel drive. Towards the end of the year, the Alhambra 4WD will also be available with six generous individual seats. This 2+2+2 seating arrangement further enhances the premium character of the Alhambra.

*All figures subject to homologation.
