TVS Motors To Launch India’s Cheapest Motorcycle Below Rs. 30000 Price Tag Posted: 18 Mar 2011 06:30 AM PDT TVS Motors is extremely busy working on India's next ultra low cost motorcycle. Yes you heard it right. After a long gap of 8 years since Bajaj BYK(India's cheapest bike then) was launched, TVS is giving final touches to its soon to be added motorcycle going head on with its counterparts belonging to the 100cc segment. The new Bike from TVS will fill the gap between the Moped and a Motorcycle from price segment point of view. This new bike could also be called as the Tata Nano of two wheelers since it would be priced around Rs. 25,000 which is very much affordable. Soon to be called as the Common Man's motorcycle, the new model is expected to drive maximum sales achieved by any TVS product till date and if it is proves to be successful enough in satisfying new buyers then the company's hope will take no time turning into reality.
H S Goindi, president (marketing) in a talk with Business Standard stated, "There is room for introducing one more product at the lower end of the motorcycle segment. Our cheapest motorcycle [TVS Star 110 cc motorcycle] comes for Rs 36,000 while the most expensive moped is tagged Rs 25,000. There might be a new product positioned in this range." He added,"The Indian market is highly demanding and doesn't any expect any let-up in quality, fit and finish, fuel efficiency, styling and engine performance, which just increases the challenge" As Goindi has stated, though achievable it is very difficult to satisfy the customers needs and still be able to extract sufficient profits. Our Indian market is quite demanding since apart from the essential features like fuel efficiency, performance etc. the overall appeal is also very important otherwise instead of gaining profits the new bike could incur undesirable losses. So at the end of the day, the company has offer something extremely specific to Indian customers' desires and that too at the lowest possible costs. Hero Honda Bike with 110 CC Engine Of Honda CB Twister Posted: 18 Mar 2011 04:27 AM PDT As per the reports from AutoCar India, Honda may provide Hero group a license to produce 110 CC engine which powers the Honda CB Twister bike from Honda in India. Since the Hero and Honda have a long term relationship which has been recently ended, this could be a friendly deal involving some royalties or some other sort of arrangements. If the report stands to be positive, this will result in a new Hero Honda (now Hero Group) Motorcycle launch in 2012 with the same engine as the Honda CB Twister. This will be a very positive deal for the Hero group as they will get a reliable and fuel efficient engine to power their vehicles without spending millions of bucks and years on research and development of an engine from scratch.
There are also rumors about Honda to give Hero group a Scooter engine license as well, however these news will be confirmed with time when some official statement comes up. Expensive Cars CKD Excise Duty Confusion Cleared By Indian Government Posted: 18 Mar 2011 03:28 AM PDT The CKD unit excise duty confusion has been finally cleared by the Indian Government and has redefined it. Earlier there was a lot of confusion regarding the duty that will be attracted by car components being imported by expensive automakers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi, which now is completely transparent from the government's end. Let us see the percentage of tax imposed by the government and on which articles:
So from now onwards cars from all the leading manufacturers of expensive and luxurious products will cost almost the same provided they keep shipping these components the way they were being. Manufacturers like Toyota, Volkswagen, Honda etc. may continue selling their products at current prices however sedans such as BMW 3 series, Mercedes C Class and Audi A4 are likely to get affected by it. So the bottom line remains that vehicles coming as CKD kits will have an edge over the CBU unit product which attract duties as high as 110%. After the proposal made by Pranab Mukherjee, a lot of discontent is being shown by automakers and now we need to wait and watch what happens next.
